Sports Lighting Embedded

Embedded1The sports lighting pole standards shown here are designed for the effects of both wind and dead loads developed by wind velocities ranging from 90 to-150 mph based on 3-second gust wind speeds. Because of varying wind effects, drag coefficients and height, correction factors have been applied over the full length of the structure. Secondary moments caused by deflection have been accounted for as eccentric moments. The total of the combined stresses are used to determine the maximum allowable loadings as listed. An appropriate safety factor (based on the minimum yield strengths of the material) has also been included.

Embedded2Pole Shaft

Our sports lighting pole shafts are available with round or multi-sided cross sections. Each shaft is constructed from a single-thickness steel sheet. The sheet is formed in to a tubular shape with constant taper and one or more longitudinal welds. Circumferentially welded splices are not allowed. The pole material used is high-strength, low-alloy steel conforming to the requirements of ASTM A595 Grade-A or ASTM A572. Poles in excess of 40 feet in length are designed as two- or 3-piece structures with a minimum of 1.5 times diameter slip fit at each joint. The longitudinal weld seam of the female section shall be reinforced at the slip area.

Welding

All welding complies with American Welding Society specification for structural welding (AWS D1.1.—most recent edition).

Finish

All sports lighting poles, platforms, and cross arms are galvanized in accordance with ASTM A123. Each assembly is coated inside and out by hot-dip process. Miscellaneous hardware is galvanized to ASTM A153. Galvanizing is done in compliance with United States Galvanizing Association (USGA).
